Capstone Hours

Hours worked: 2

Oh my, I keep forgetting to update this! I did my final two hours. I spent this throughout the past two weeks or so. I pretty much went over my press kit and adjusted some of the formatting and rewrote a few paragraphs. I also had my mentor give it a final check over to ensure its quality. We also had our last meeting and wrapped up some of the questions I had for him.

Capstone Hours

Hours worked: 3

I hate making up so much information about the company. It's very difficult. All I've got left to do is the company information: the Cover Letter, Bio Sheet, News Letter, and Fact Sheet. That'll take me to the last two hours I need. Jeez, this is requiring a lot more creativity than I thought it would. Haha.

Capstone Hours

Hours worked: 8

Spoke to my mentor about career choices in Communications/Advertisement and continued to research possible places to advertise. I'm thinking about looking to add four more places on top of the three I've already researched. I've also created two of the slides for my press kit. Do I have to make up company information? I'm considering making brochures as well.

Capstone Hours

Hours worked: 6

I spent two hours discussing my media kit and what one would do in the communications department of Cisco with my mentor. I then spent four hours researching and creating an excel document on the channels and magazines I would like to advertise on.

Post 7: Heroes

Emily Bronte's Wuthering Height portrays the protagonist, Heathcliff, as both an anti-hero and a romantic hero. Heathcliff is charismatic, charming, and larger than life only for Catherine while he is sadist and cruel to the rest of the world. He is also romantic because he strives to overcome his tortured childhood although it is through violence.

Capstone Hours

Hours worked: 3

I keep forgetting to update this. So last week (or maybe the week before) I brainstormed advertisement ideas by myself then with Alice. We came up with three poster ideas that are fairly simplistic while still capturing the attractiveness of their point-and-click game. The three posters will consist of one yellow dragon eye with red skin, one will be a dragon's silhouette on a grassy field, and one will a child's hand reaching for a baby dragon's hand. We will also be creating a thirty second flash animation of the dragons as an advertisement. I still haven't done the spreadsheet or the website itself but I will be doing that with my mentor tomorrow. Christian and I also have a list of more contacts such as gaming magazines to include in our advertisement cycle. I spent a while reading their design document and have brainstormed ideas for how to incorporate things such as equipment and the default dragon appearances into the website itself.

Post 6: A Midsummer Night's Dream

William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” focuses on the theme of true love and its many obstacles. The fairy Puck represents these obstacles as he is the cause of many of the lover’s problems as they enter the forest. Puck’s actions interfere and cause nothing but trouble for the four lovers, thus perfectly exemplifying the things that make Shakespeare’s theme of “.. The course of true love never did run smooth..” completely accurate.
The first of Puck’s meddling causes unnecessary grief and forces the plot into motion as he causes Lysander to fall out of love with Hermia and in love with Helena. Attempting to correct Puck’s mistake, Oberon applies the flower onto Demetrius’ eyes. However this only causes more confusion because Demetrius sees Helena and as he declares his love for her, Lysander challenges him. Hermia finally catches up to the quarrelling boys and is devastated by Lysander’s brutal reaction to her. All the while Helena is hurt that they would all go to such lengths to, what she believes to be, playing tricks on her. The entirety of this confusion is all caused by Puck’s one mistake which set off a domino effect on all the lovers’ lives.
Despite this insane discord, the four are brought back to how they should be as Puck lures them away from one another and cures Lysander of the flower. Though Puck began all this, he also puts their lives back together under Oberon’s orders. Though there were complications that seemed impossibly cruel for all four of the lovers, their true loves returned. So although Puck was the cause of the conflicts he was also the resolution. The entirety of Puck’s actions demonstrated that anything could happen in the pursuit of love but if it is truly true love then the conflicts will resolve themselves.

Capstone Hours

Hours worked: 2

I got sick last week so I didn't have time to document it. Last Thursday I consulted with Ms. Clements about what exactly was expected of me from a marketing project. Let me just say, she made my life so much easier! I learned so much from her. So it turns out that pretty much all networks have things called "Media Kits" and they're basically powerpoints of who watches what, when, and how many. This makes advertising easier because now I know which networks to target for our audience and how much of our budget we'd be using. She also told me about the different branches of marketing. What I'm focusing on is the strategy design part of account services and the interactive and design parts of the creative branch. She also told me a of neat-o way of organizing my "contacts" in an excel spreadsheet. I'd separate them into five columns; type, name, audience, circulation, and cost. She offered to get me an old media kit she made back when she was in marketing and I accepted her offer. I'm still waiting on it and am very excited. End hour one.

I then went home and proceeded to get the flu. For the hour before I fell into a fever, I was able to get some brainstorming done. I knew for sure I wanted to get commercial spots on Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Disney Channel because they were the big three of children's shows. This was probably what would kill most of our estimated launch budget which is hundred thousand pretend dollars. I knew for sure that I would need to commission someone, probably Maylee, to draw the three posters I had in mind already. I would also need to think of a few flash gaming websites to host maybe two or three banner ads and perhaps one pop up ad. If there was room in our budget (which I highly doubt) I could get a google spot for searches and a banner on facebook. I already know that the magazines I wanted for sure would be Gameinformer and IGN maybe even advertise on their websites. Not to mention creating the actual website just for the game. Also I know what my focus on will be for this project: HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE. End hour two.

My next step is to actually draw up some design plans and research the media kits.
